The worlds best athletes know things that the average athlete doesn’t; they prepare differently so that they can perform differently.

And the truth is that they often keep these “little things” a secret so that they can have a hidden advantage.

So, I’m going to shed some light on that this week.

Since 2021 we’ve been working with Finnish superstar Lauri Markkanen, of the Utah Jazz.

When we started with Lauri he was in a challenging situation with the Chicago Bulls; the system that he was playing in didn’t really fit in with his strengths, and it made it tough for him to succeed.

So, to help him get out of it, we had him tap into these 3 little known secrets that helped him skyrocket his success and become the NBA All-Star that he is today.

1. Get Clear On the Person You Want to Be

Everything great starts with imagination; before you can become an All-Star you need to imagine it, and Lauri did just that.

He got very clear on exactly what he wanted to accomplish, but more importantly he got very clear on the person he wanted to become.

He then understood what his current habits looked like and what it would take for him to get there.

Doing the extra work, visualizing each day, and making it a point to focus on recovery work were all a part of the process.

When he did this, he picked up the habits of the person he wanted to be: an NBA All-Star.

2. Master One Skill Each Month

If there’s one thing that’ll skyrocket your success the fastest, it’s skill mastery.

Skill mastery allows you to walk into any competition knowing that you’re going to dominate because you’re sure of yourself; and like with Lauri, this is crucial if you’re going to dominate.

The key is to select one skill, then visualize it daily, practice it daily, and watch film on it daily.

These repetitions will allow you to feel certain about yourself and your skills, which is crucial.

For Lauri, over the course of the season he focused on mastering his 3-ball, as well as driving the lane.

3. Focus on One Rep At a Time

The key to dominance is taking it play by play, not game by game.

So many times, athletes make the mistake of worrying way too much about the overall end result instead of the things that drive the end result.

Play by play - that’s what matters most. One rep at a time, one shot at a time, etc. - this is the key.

Stay Resilient

And there you have it - these are the little know secrets that the best of the best use in order to dominate. You deserve to reach your full potential - remember that.

Stay resilient,
